This Is A Wiccan-Based Question, If Anyone Can Help...?
Q. I have been a Wiccan for five years, and had most of my tools, the other's my fiance had, but due to a recent incident in which my sister's house caught on fire (we all lived together) I have lost all of my tools and other things... I, my best friend Nova, my fiance Tubbs, and my father-like-friend Miles (who past away after the fire) all believe homemade tools generate my power and are generally better, but I have no clue where to start, does anyone know how to or knows a link to make the following items: a sword, athame, white-handled knife, an altar, chalices, candles, a wand, censer, incense, a pentacle, cauldron, broom (besom) , robes, cords, and a bell... I know that that is quite a bit, but it would really help if you could tell me… [cont.]

A. as a former Wiccan,u can go to about.com and look there. There are several books that can tell u how to make your own items or buy them and bless them. I crochet, and I made my own alter cloth and I agree with your family that making your own stuff generates, power and are better. I know it sounds wierd, but I felt better when I used my own alter cloth and yes, candles can be home made, but I would buy them, instead ,from a reputable candle shop, like one that specializes in Wiccan candles.I found my wand,or rather,it found me,on a walk after the rain.a Pentacle, find one in a jewelry store.the broom,i would find one hand made, too. My robe, there are places on the net where u can find such things, and there is a catalogue that has them,I will have to… [cont.]

Calling all Wiccan's/Wicca/Witches... . I am writing a book...?
Q. am writing a book and this girl goes up stares to her attic to escape her siblings and finds a trunk. When she realizes there is a name written on it that belongs to no one in her family she opens it. She finds a robe, and then realizes that there is something under the fabric and pulls it out. She finds another box and pules it out. It is an old metal box with runes carved into it. they are written by different people (different family members). She opens it and finds... Insense, a wand, a knife (an athame), jewelry (talismans, amulets), a necklace (pentagram), dried herbs, rocks, cords, candles, 4 bowls (elements), a bell, a cup (chalice, goblet), crystal ball, another knife (boline) and chalk. Everything has symbols on it. She goes back… [cont.]

A. Well, I think you need to decide whether you're wanting to write about witches or Wiccans, because they aren't the same. If you're wanting this stuff to be old (passed down through many generations), you wouldn't be talking about Wicca, because Wicca is only about 70 years old. You should really do some research no whatever group you're wanting to use and then decide how historically accurate or realistic you want to be. There's more to witches and Wiccans besides items. (In fact, I wouldn't even say items are a major part). At the very least, you should have an idea what each item you introduce is for. Don't just include items that you think are "witchy."

Is the study of folklore part of anthropology?
Q. I have been wasting time for years trying to figure out what exactly I want to go to school for. At my current age and circumstances in life, I believe its high time to actually get there. One thing I've found I have a passion for is folklore, but I'd like to know what field I should get into to take the best advantage of this passion. While I know folklore can be studied through literature, I am really interested in the actual usage of the items in folklore (e.g. birch branches were used to purify cattle, make besom brooms, etc. or red coral is good against evil eye, etc). And also how the lore traveled and changed through time and culture. I'm really not sure if the literature alone could cover this and I think anthropology might cover… [cont.]
